Quanah Texas July 2014
456 miles 2 days
just a short fun ride
The point of this ride was to finish a ride we started in 2010 to Eldorado Oklahoma
that's when we blew the motor on Skull and ended up having our son bring the truck and haul the bike back to OKC.
Eldorado is a odd town up to about 30 years ago it still had "The Sundown Law"
the town even had signs posted that read
"if your black don't let the sun set on your back"
Yep that hasn't been that long. They even still talk about it over in Quanah Texas to this day.
We seem to have bad luck in Eldorado each time we have been there.
This time was no exception.
I get stung by a wasp
Lynn gets stung by a wasp
and Skull falls over due to soft asphalt.
which didn't seem to be that soft because it wasn't that hot out side.
We visited 12 cemeteries on this ride, seen some great views and had a great weekend.
And as always ate some great food ina few mom and pop places.
There is a place called Cobb Creek cafe on Hwy 152 just west of Eakly Oklahoma

 Great hamburgers and fries.
Jeannies place in Chickasha Oklahoma

Or Benny's Mexican restaurant in Altus Oklahoma

the sights are always what we are looking for on these rides

If you take your time you can see a 1000 sights a still make good time
and have fun

The Rabbit Ear Ride
So the story goes like this
Skull was broke down for almost 2 months. We have been riding but on Voices.Doing short rides, you know not more than a couple hundred miles each ride. There is something about her that just beats us up. I don't know if its the seats the bars or what , but we are sore after riding her. So we found (by luck) a guy by the name of HOTDOG here in OKC that cut his teeth on these 750's because after all these years I still don't know how to work on the motor. Now HotDog is a little odd but really good at what he does, and thats all we care about. So after me over reving Skull I did some damage to the head and he just happens to have a store room full of Honda cb750 parts and knows what to do with them, which is good because I don't (LOL).
Now the last weekend of June, Lynn was headed up to Shattuck  Oklahoma to visit with my aunt and I was headed to Weleetka Oklahoma to do hauling for a customer who's cousin had passed and he needed to pick up her stuff from the nusing home she was in. Well the weds before the last weekend of June we got Skull back (only took 2 weeks and 2 days to get fixed) and it just happened my customer could not get off work to go. Sooooooooo Lynn decided we would take the bike to Shattuck and go from there to Clayton New Mexico to eat at the Rabbit Ear Cafe (Lynn loves the food) green Chillies and real Mexican food what more could you need or want?
So I made reservations at The Eklund Hotel for Saturday night, Friday night we would just wing it. There is a Motel/Hotel in Shattuck called Holiday Motel maybe they would have a room. Every thing was set , the weather was forecast to be hot and windy all weekend long. Yes once again we were headed to western Oklahoma in the heat of the summer, why do I say I will never ever ever ride this part of the state in the summer when it seems we ride it in the heat of the summer every year (LOL).
Friday rolls around , the bike is all packed , money has been gotten and Lynn gets home early. Hmmmmm that should have been a sign right there .
We mount up stop by Sandra's to say by and head out on Hwy 33 to the great western skyline. Less than 30 mins out of OKC Lynn starts moving around all over the seat. Seems she had a nose bleed. So I pull over. She says a bug hit her and went up her nose. Her nose was just pouring blood. Seems she had a pretty good size bug stuck up in her nasal passage.
An old grey beard stopped and lent us a hand by the way of some TP paper. We got it to stop bleeding and headed on. Yep hot and windy the entire weekend.
Oh it only got better. It stormed Fri night and then Sat morn rolled around and I decided o take Lynn over to Gage Oklahoma to show her where as a kid I would go to swim. It's called the Gage Beach and I have been telling Lynn about this place for over 30 years and now shes going to see it.
It was still there although showing it's age.

You can see what was rolling in, It seems Lynn and I understand hot dry and windy a little different than the weather people.

Shattuck had some interesting things to see

Friday night we stayed here
nothing fancy bed sucked wifi sucked but the shower was great

Sat morn we visited with my aunt
 And then time to roll

We headed across the Texas panhandle into New Mexico
Now it was time to get to the business of getting Lynn to Clayton Nm in a timely manor so she could eat at The Rabbit Ear Cafe. That was my only goal for this day.
We could not check in to the hotel till 4:00 pm so we would have to play it by ear when we got to Clayton.
We had enough time to stop in at The Hansford cemetery and take a few pic's

And then we were in New Mexico

Well 3:15 and we were in Clayton sitting in front of
The Rabbit Ear Cafe!!!
And they were close until 4:00 pm
LOL
so we decided to find the Eklund and see if we could check in early.
So while I went in and checked us in Lynn took some pic's of the outside of hotel and then of the inside, both of the lobby and the hallways and room. Which we do at most of the fancy places we are blessed to be able to stay at.
Here is a lot of pic's

Now I guess with all these pic's I should tell you this
The room was great the bed was great the pillows were great
But the water in the room ok the hotel ok the entire town was , well lets just say lacking.
Seems as though one of the towns water pumps went out and 3/4 on the town had little to no water. And since we were on the 3rd floor of the hotel we had zero water.
But we would worry about that later for now it was time to go eat.

Green chile sauce and good food
we ate good and drank lemon aid and then it was time to head back to the hotel.
They are really welcoming to bikers at this hotel
they even let you put your bike in there private garage
which I did

Skull was safe and dry for they night.
However Lynn needed a comb and hair tie (hers broke)
so off to walk the town and get her what she needed.

In for the night and up early to take some artsy fartsy pic

then walk around town again before breakfast

A pic of us in the old saloon ,breakfast then on the road back to OKC

The plan was to take hwy 87 to Amarillo (place Clint Black song here) then hwy 152 back thru to OKC. Well we all know us sticking to the plan just is not our way.
It was lunch time and the Big Texan was close
Sooooooooooooooooooo

I haven't been to the big Texan , Lynn has a few years back (at least 34) it's a neat place
The chicken fried steak (sucked) was pre breaded and frozen but Lynn's steak was good.
Good place to get in out of the Texas heat and get ready for the ride home.

The rest of the ride was hot windy and well western Oklahoma.
We did make a stop at one of my customers family cemeteries out by Thomas Oklahoma off of hwy 54
so we took hwy 33 back to OKC which is the way we headed out Fri.
2 days 810 miles with no problems
can't wait till the next ride!!
Here is 2 video's
